Just the Right Words at Just the Right Time
When Leanne penned a note to her daughter's coach that day, she had no idea it would make such a huge difference in Jill Beran's life. She didn't know Jill was at her lowest point, where doubt and loneliness had lead her into deep depression.

With just the right words, God spoke courage and hope into Jill's heart, through Leanne.

At just the right time, He reached through the darkness and touched Jill's life, through Leanne.

The night Jill came home, her depression had turned to despair. And then Leann's note fell out of Jill's journal. Simple words of appreciation brought hope into the darkness. Someone saw something in Jill that she couldn't see in herself. Someone believed her life was worth living.

Leanne's simple words helped changed the course of Jill's life. But, as I shared in my devotion today, that’s just the beginning of their story. You can read the rest of it in their book Letters from Leanne. Today, I asked them to share more with us about it:

Tell us a little about the book: Letters from Leanne is the story of our friendship over the last ten years and how God has worked through it . We share the joys and trials we've encountered on our walk of faith, but ultimately how we saw God’s hand in every situation.

Jill, why did you write this book? Initially, I wanted to thank Leanne. I’d been blessed by her perspective as a mom, her acceptance as a friend, her guidance as an older woman and especially the love she poured out as a Christian. But it isn’t just a thank you to Leanne; it’s a thank you to God. Our friendship has been and still is a gift. I pray by reading our story, women will be encouraged to build similar relationships in their lives.

What do you hope readers will gain? We pray women will be encouraged in their faith and inspired to find or be a mentor. We share how mentoring is not about having all the answers, but simply sharing your life with someone. We give you a look at a specific spiritual mentoring relationship and take you on the journey of how our's grew.

We've also included questions in each chapter to help women apply what we share to their personal lives. Women are encouraged to slow down and take a look at their own lives and find lessons in the letters.

Just today my husband and I were discussing how we could reach out to my sister-in-law who is struggling with depression. We believe this issue is not meant to walked through alone but with God and family at your side.

I'm sorry about your list evaporating into internet poof space.

I know how that is, as my time evaporates like that. But it is important to feel rested for the kiddos and the events of the next day.

Perfectly fine to rest up a bit before redoing blogs comes into play.

I will be encouraging my children as the day with them starts now as I hear my warning alarm going off. In case I get to interested in my facebook reading or daily friend contacts, emails and devotionals. I set the clock or post myself a reminder to keep things in check.
Yeah I'm just a bit nutty most days. I'm a stay at home mom & trust me God comes first in my mind and heart. Not always in my actions I guess, as I get discouraged or impatient some days or just plain exhausted. But the internet also is my sources of encouragement and help. From cleaning advice, recipes and parenting advice to christian devotionals. It comforts me daily. I get lonely during the daytime as my kiddos both are in school now and hubby works long hours to make up for my being at home.
I don't have as many friends as those I know who work out of the home. I try to read every morning between sending hubby off to work and getting the kiddos up. I also use facebook to encourage other ladies along the way or should I say they end up giving me encouragement, advice and the friend's love & encouragement, I desperately need as well, when I'm having bad days.
There is nothing like being able to say to someone or hearing a dear old friend or new friend say I'm praying for you and understand.

I also use facebook to encourage the kids at school. Which makes my mommy heart happy as well and helps me really get to know my kids friends. I get down quite a bit because I feel disconnected with my family some days. Because time just seems to get away and there is always so much pressure from the daily routines of life. But it makes it a bit easier to hear from other Christians who have been there and have understanding hearts and kind words for one another.

I just want you to know your encoragements (& the other ladies) here @ proverbs 31 do a great job of encouraging me daily. And I want to thank you all, all of you for that.

I like many verses but I find that these help me daily.

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."

I love your devotion, Renee'. This very thing happened to me recently. I shared a word with a friend, whose little girl passed away last year (6 years old), because I felt a nudge from the Lord to encourage her. She told me a two weeks later that she had seriously considered suicide even taking measure to carry out the act, but the word I spoke to her came back to her. When she remembered the word, her heart was strengthened and she did not go through with it. I had no idea that she might even think of doing that! Her testimony of the Lord using those few words to stop her brought me to my knees. I am so grateful that He stopped her.

One of my very favorite verses to encourage with is Psalm 5:3 NIV "In the morning, O Lord, you will hear my voice; In the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation."

Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord. There is a ripple down affect and it reaches far.

Matthew 6:34-'Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.' This verse has helped me so much over the years. I really have learned to not sweat the small stuff anymore!

I have had times when I have written a whole blog and lost it so I understand how upsetting that can be.
Today I had a teen girl that said she wished she was so perfect just like other girls. I told her that just because the look "perfect on the outside doesn't mean they are not struggling with thinking they are fat, ugly, bolemia, other struggles in their lives. I told her to be herself and look from within not just from the outter shell because she never knows what others are going through no matter how "perfect" they percieve to be.

I will be encouraging my mother in a few moments. She often questions God's wisdom and my father is at this moment going in for a biopsy on his prostate. His father died of prostate cancer and they are concerned. I know God is so much bigger than anything we even imagine. He loves us all so much.

I have an employee who is in his 40's having triple bypass surgery today. He is not a Christian and has openly rejected Christianity, but he was receptive when I told him last week I would be praying for him. Fellow employees have all signed a card that says we will all be praying for him and will send it to him today for encouragement. Isaiah 41:10 is encouraging to me as is your devotional today! Our heat has gone out, my daughter is home sick and I am going to a specialist Thurs. for a pinched nerve in my lower back. I know that God will take care of everything, but I hope I will be better next week to attend your conference on the 19th! My favorite verse is Matt. 6:33, Seek ye first the kindgom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. I have already forwarded your devotional to several friends and a sister struggling and written a note to each one. I always like to include in my notes several verses that apply to the specific trial they are going through, not my life verse necessarily. Notes really do matter and lift our friends' hearts and sustain them through their difficult times. They show our love and that we are there for them, walking the hard path with them, not just the joy journey.

Sweet Blessings and a great devo reminding us to take time for what matters to nurture those friendships.

She is new in the nursing field but has such a heart that each of her patients has touched her in some way even though she didn't want to admit it. Having lost one has been heartbreaking for her. She has definitely been given a gift from God to help others. I having been praying that God will open her eyes to see what a true gift she has and is to everyone.

I have not spoken to her in a few daysb, tu plan to call her this evening after work. I have done wellin being able to draw her out and get under that tough exterior lately. This way I have been able to get to the meat and potatoes of the issues that are hanging on her and provide her with some encouraging words.

..."what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance." such an encouragement that our trials/struggles are not just "life", but rather that God intends to use them for greater things.
My other one would be Isaiah 58:9

This week I am encouraging my mom. She is in pain and I am standing on the promise that God WILL answer and this will be for her deliverance.

I'm also encouraging my 6-member sermon transcript team (we provide our pastors' weekly messages in written format for use by the hard-of-hearing, those who get more out of reading than hearing, and for several members who distribute them in prisons). This team frequently experiences computer issues that can cause great frustration. So I encourage the team with a scripture passage the Lord gave me for this very purpose:

I love sending notes to people and get frustrated when I do not follow through when I think of someone who may need a card in the mail to encourage them. I am going to encourage the ladies in my community group at church. I am also going to be encouraging my husband in some things going on in his job. And since I have two little ones, I will be pouring encouragement into them and loving them more and more!

I think my 'favorite' verse changes with things going on in my life, but I think one that is applicable and needs to be EVER-present is that I need to: "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own." (Msg) and another that seems to be coming up a lot is "Guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life." -Pro 4:23

I agree with Veronica, I dislike when things like that happen and lately they seem to be happening quite often for me too! :) However, I have been learning to pause and wait because there is a reason somewhere even in the computer world! :) I had a difficult time picking just one favorite however, Isaiah 43:2-3a - seems to be the one I am standing most often just now. It says: "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shalt not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior ... At the beginning of tax season this year I had a call from a young lady that desperately needed encouragement and that verse is the one I used to encourage her. She said that it was helpful and was glad that I took the time to help her. I asked if I could check back with her later in the week and she said that she would appreciate that. I am blessed that the person I "volunteer" for is also my pastor. Every day we pray with people and encourage them if needed. This day I will be encouraging one of the ladies in our church who has asked me to study the bible with her. As well as anyone I come in contact with that needs it today.

My name is Hazel Gray.

I the devotionals from Proverbs 31 everyday and most of the time I feel like they are meant for me. While other times it makes me thing of something a friend is going through so I will forward it on to them.

I would also like to say to the stay at home mom, hang in there, don't give up. I am a working mom and I go through the same struggles because I often wish I could be a stay-at-home mom. However, I feel like I am at the point where God wants me to be right now.

One way my friends and I encourage each other is through texting. We like to text each other prayers and verses.

One prayer I often go back to is this one: "Dear Lord, help me to see and quiet my critical striving spirit today and greatfully accept who I am and where I am at this moment, for you are here ready to invisibly empower my life to count for plenty right where I am. Help me also to seek and hold Your definition of plenty-nothing more, nothing less."

I plan encourage both of my children today as my son has his first basketball game today and my daughter is having a tought time in school.

My favorite verse is Deuteronomy 33:12 because I can close my eyes and picture myself sitting on the lap of Jesus with my head on his chest and his arms wrapped around me and I feel safe.
