It's not what we give, but how we live!
As I think about the perfect gifts to give my kids, my husband and my mom this Christmas, I've decided that more than anything, what they want is more of "me." More of my time, my attention to really listen and be together for no purpose but just that!

God's been whispering to my heart about loving well, living deeply, enjoying the gifts of those I love most! He's been reminding me through His Word, through messages and music that when I look back on my life, it won't really matter who I knew, what I have or what I did, what will matter most is how I lived!! That brings me to my next thought...

Cool Christmas Give Aways - TWO DRAWINGS!!!
It's time for my Cool Christmas Give-Away and we extended it since the response has been so amazing!! I just couldn't only choose one. I have loved reading everyone's comments and stories, and hope you'll leave one, too!

About my gift: Have you heard Point of Grace's newest song, "How You Live"? It's my favorite!! When it comes on, I turn up the music and sing with all of my heart. It embarrases my kids but, oh well.

Last month I had the incredible blessing of getting to know three of the members of Point of Grace on the Girl's Get-Away Cruise. I told them about how we do give-aways on our blogs, so they gave me a signed copy of their photo and their newest CD - "How You Live" to give away!!! Here's the music video they did with their kids. (click on the arrow to watch) You might want to get some tissue or get ready to sing - either way, turn up the music and listen closely - it just might change how you live!!

There's more....
My Cool Christmas Give-Away includes the Point of Grace CD, an autographed photo, a 2 session DVD from my "Living and Leaving a Legacy" women's conference and a copy of God's Purpose for Every Woman with devotions for everyday to help you really live! And I am giving away Two Gift Paks now!!

To enter the drawings, click on the word "comments" below and tell me how this song touches your heart and why'd you'd like to win. You can also post on Lysa TerKeurst's blog (for double entries). We're now doing the drawing Thursday morning, and we'll both announce the winner on our blogs.

Remember this Christmas and all throughout next year, it's not what you give...it's how you live!!!

I'm just a new discoverer of your web site and I love the inspiration you give. I lead a ladies bible study group which I absolutely love, but sometimes the leader needs some teaching as well!By reading your blog I can get my daily dose. How does the Point of Grace song touch my heart? Well, last year my family and I moved to be quite a distance away from any family and friends because of my husbands work. Whilst we have settled as best we can, I still have my struggles with missing everyone and wondering what the point was. Yet, deep down, I know God has a wonderful and perfect plan for us. I have had to learn not to let my attitude get in the way of that, to be a bad witness to my children. I constantly remind myself that God is in control and that how I live my life in any circumstance is what is important. The song reminds me to take advantage of every opportunity that God puts before us,to strive to discover His will and always wear a smile, for He is good!

How we live is something I need to keep in front of my eyes throughout this special time. I need to remember its not the arguments, it's what is in a persons heart. My family is extremely stressed out this time of year, my father is a pastor and I am very active in the church, both for out ministry and the day to day functioning of out daycare and preschool. Often I get sidetracked with the small things that get to me and frustrate me. I am also in recovery, which adds additional stress. the point I am making is to focus on God, He gives me the ability to look past the small things and look at the BIG picture

I have been reminded recently of the saying to live today for we no not what tomorrow brings. Each day is so precious and is a gift from God. As Christians we need to share God's gifts with others, love, compassion, joy,and peace that passes all understanding. All of us have sorrow and pain at some point in our lives. That's when we need to reach out to others with the love that God has given to each one of us.An hour, a day, a week goes by so quickly let's remember to use our time wisely and share God's special message of love and hope.

I was raised in the church but spent most of my adult life without a relationship with God. I was very goal oriented, earning several post-graduate degrees and a professional career. I traveled in Europe and South America. Married. Had a baby. Check. Check. Check. I've only just begun to get reacquainted with God in the last month and one of my biggest struggles has been giving up the illusion that I'M the one setting the goals and I'M the one achieving the success in my life. Being on maternity leave with my son has been a wonderful experience but sometimes I just go stir-crazy... desperate to have a three-year plan, a clear direction, a multi-tasking computerized spreadsheet of a to-do list. I'm used to living that way and I miss the comfort of the old familiar. I am trying to listen. Trying to be still. This song reminds me of the importance of living life and not living my plan.

Hey Renee! This is Ashley. My family and I were with you on Cayman Brac aroung Labor Day. I have been lurking around your blog since then:).
Wow. That song is soooo true. It is totally not who you know, what you have, but all about how you live! I have been reading the book The Ultimate Gift. In it it talks about that we are given the ultimate gift- "'Make the gift grow and be fruitful. Make your life an extension of the ultimate gift you have received. If you will do all of these things, you will have— in your own way— given to me your version of the ultimate gift.’” This statement makes me think of Jesus and His gift for me. Jesus came to this earth with one purpose— to die for my sins. He paid the price for my ultimate gift. Now in my life, I need to take his gift of forgiveness and share it with others– I need to make it grow and be fruitful. I need to make my life and extension of that ultimate gift.

Merry Christmas!

Hi Renee - What any amazing video - and the words so touched my heart! They are right - it is definitely "..How you live..." and I am teaching my children that you need to leave to please the Lord first and foremost - and he will direct your paths in the way you should go! It is amazing how many lives you can touch for Christ - when you just lean on Him! WoW - I would really love this CD - I know 3 people right off the bat that I could give it too! I may just have to go - and buy them up for my friends! What a powerful song...
Renee - I so appreciate you attaching that video to your blog -it sure touched my heart and know it will touch others. Keep Shining for Jesus!

Thank you for the opportunity to share my comments with you. I have never posted a comment on any website before. God has been convicting me lately to share the blessings that he has bestowed upon me and my family. For whatever reason I get intimidated and miss out on so many opportunities to share with others how great our God is. I'm working on that and so here is the first for me.
Point of Grace's song is a song that has touched my life. It took several years for my husband and I to have children. We now have two wonderful boys, ages 7 and 9. We cherish each moment with them and try to raise them to serve God and be an example. Sometimes we get so caught up in it that we fear what is ahead of them in the years to come and we want to protect them. This song makes me realize that we do have to put our trust in God and that He will take control of everything if we leave it to Him. I can get so caught up with everything from deadlines to dishes, but sometimes it just helps to leave it all and live life and cherish each moment. Because when we grow older we probably won't remember what dishes didn't get washed but we will remember the times that we spent living life with family and friends and making memories. Those are the cherished moments that keep us alive in Him. Just this past Saturday, our little boys wrote up a long list for us to do. On that list was everything from playing baseball, duck, duck, goose, basketball, and croquet. At the end of my boys' list was "and mommy needs to clean house". Guess what? At first I thought "how am I going to get my stuff taken care of if I am busy outside playing? Well, I didn't care. I just made sure their list got taken care of. When we laid our heads on our pillows Saturday night, my house was not clean, but my heart felt refreshed! Those are moments that cannot be taken back!

Thank you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hi Rene, this's what i derived from the song.It urges me to forget about the past and press on towards the goal ahead. Can't change my past but can work on the "now"(present) and the future. Also not be self-centered but care for my neighbours. To crown it, i should value whatever i give out,for it's not how big or much that thing may be but it's how willingly i give it.Gloria

This convicted me just as I was coming home from shopping. Even though I am done with Christmas shopping, every time I am out, I think "just one more thing" for one of my daughters. You are so right...it is not more stuff but more me that they want. And do they really want the me that is right now or the me that I know God wants me to be? It gives a lot to think about.

Memories can be a blessing. That song reminded me of my Mom. She went to be with the Lord at the sweet age of 88. She taught me how to love my enemies and not worry about tomorrow. It didn't matter if the house was in perfect order but what did matter was the time she spent with you. She always was ready to help anyone in need or just say a kind word to you. If I had to describe her I would say that her life show me what it meant to be Christ-like.

That is my new favorite song too! I bought the cd with some money my dad gave me and I have been playing it in the car and at home. I turn it up loud and sing along. My husband is an over the road trucker, and my kids are grown, so I am alone a lot. But god is so faithful, and has encouraged me to 1) count my blessings each day and 2) appreciate and enjoy wht He's given to me. This is the first time I've been to your blog, but I will be back. Thanks!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the devotionals, been receiving them for a few years now. It's funny, well not really funny (I'll call it God) how at very specific times when I needed encouragement I would open up my inbox to discover a word JUST FOR ME! I'm a mom of 3 one of which has Down Syndrome and I am forever battling with guilt of not doing enough or neglecting what matters most. Thanks for being there to show I'm not alone in this journey. God Bless!!

The song is a daily reminder of how to live my life, not about what I have or don't have, or what I want to do and can't do, but to live in the moment, celebrating everyone and everything that comes my way, and being THANKFUL for it all. It helps me look at the world through a new light, and reminds me of what is truly important.

Boy, has that song spoke to me also. We all worry so much about what people think about us. People aren't going to remember who we knew or what we did, but they will remember the type of life we lived. I can hear the song in my head now and I would ove to win the CD!

Thank you and God Bless

Time is such a precious gift. We moved recently and I realized that the boxes would wait but my kids would keep growing up each day and if I didn't slow down then I would miss it.
So it has taken a while to get all the boxes put away, but we have enjoyed the swingset in our new yard, taken walks in the new neighborhood and played on our back deck.
And, truth be told, some of the boxes are still hanging around. Maybe I will just wrap them in some Christmas paper and call them decorations!

That song has really touched my heart. In the past year I have taken on the task of leading our church in worship as well as singing a special solo every week. We have gone through a difficult time in our church with a split and half the congregation leaving. It has been a struggle to be motivating and positive in such a joyless atmosphere, since I have never been in a leadership position before. God has given me many blessings through this position. He brought me to that place and he will hold me up as I lead my church back to a place of praise, worship and joy. Thank you for reminding us to focus on how we live our lives and not on who we know or what we do.

Everytime I listen to this song it reminds me of how precious each day is and what a gift it is as well. I have lost so many loved ones throughout my life and I know that you have to live each day as if it were your last. Don't leave any situation unresolved and any kind word unsaid. Everyday I deal with so many different people and I let them know God's promises for their lives. I know that all that I have lost or gained is for the purpose of glorifying God. Just this past Friday, after women's prayer, I had some of my Christmas lights stolen from my front yard. All I could do is pray for that lost soul that is in such a strong bondage that would lead him/her to do something so awful. Anyhow, the day didn't stop there, then I got news that my cousin died that morning as well. What a heartache I felt, but God's joy is my strength and believe that He gave me a triple dose that day. I'm so thankful to the Lord because He is in control and He knows the plans He has for my life. I lead a Women's bible study group and every week we share of our triumphs in the Lord and also of our failures because those are the things that mold our character and help us mature spiritually. I love to heare of God's miraclous power over all things of this world. This song just wraps it all up. It's amazing and makes my heart warm everytime I hear it. Especially now with the loss of my cousin, it is just another reminder of the fact that tomorrow is not promised and therefore live your today as if it were your last. God bless you all!

I actually just purchased the new Point of Grace CD last week. It's wonderful!!! The song, "How We Live" is just amazingly beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. It's a song that everyone should hear, and I can't imagine anyone not loving it. It's the perfect reminder for all of us.

I forget sometimes to remember that everything God gives us is a true blessing, I think we all do. Especially when things aren't going as good as other times. God's blessings come in so many forms and I know for me I sometimes forget to look and listen for the unknown. The last 2-3 years have been rough for me, but as I look back all the stuff that happened has gotten me where I am at, which is stronger. That in itself is a blessing from God. I am exactly where I need to be and where God wants me at this time. Thanks for letting me share!

I am sitting here trying to think of my favorite line out of that song and have come to the conclusion that they are all my favorite! I have lost my sister, my mother and my father. I know that the time we spend here is so very small and that we need to not take that for granted. There have been times when how I did it with my boys and my husband was wrong - short temper, not listening or paying attention and when I reflect on that it hurts me so much, probably more than it hurt them. This reminds me that I need to think before I act.

I just love this song by PointOfGrace. They are such beautiful women, both inside and out. I love the video with their families. My husband and I just had our first child. A beautiful little girl named Jennifer Faith. This song couldn't have had better timing in our life. It really is all about hos we choose to live our lives. This song has really affected our approach to life. My husband and I always give each other a little glance every time we hear it come on Klove and realize how blessed we are to have our new precious little gift!

First of all...I LOVE Point of Grace!! This song encourages me so much to really look at life and live it. Not only live it, but live it the way God intended me to live. I have 3 boys and so many times I get so caught up in doing the things that the world wants me to do instead of just doing what God wants me to do and that is to be the best mommy I can be for my boys. I just need to turn up the music and play it out loud!! Thanks for this great reminder!!

What an amazing song! A very dear friend of mine recently had a massive stroke but Praise God survived and is making huge strides (http://joannebudd.blogspot.com)
This song just reminded me of her. She didn't have any idea that this stroke was coming, but it came. Hers & her families life won't ever be the same, but I know that they are cherishing every single moment that they have together. I would love to win this for her ~ to send it to her so that she can stay encouraged thru her long recovery. She is walking and talking but has difficulty with these things and with her right hand. She has always encouraged me in the word and with her life & I would like to do the same for her.

Hi Renee! Thank you for your reminders about how important it is to spend time with the ones you love. In the past holiday seasons, I would take every opportunity to go shopping and toil over what gifts to give and how many more people were on the list. I love to give presents that really mean something to someone and I enjoy watching them open and react the present that I have spent time on. But... this year, I have decided that I am not exchanging gifts with anyone but my mom and my dad. I am single and in my mid-20's so no kids to worry about. Instead of giving gifts, I am scheduling time to spend with all those that are important to me. I am having a movie night with a bunch of girlfriends, a game night with a group of guys that I am close too, I am serving at the soup kitchen with our church youth director and spending the entire day on the 26th of December with my little brother who moved last year. I have found myself looking forward to the opportunity to spend time with those that I love and care for so much and less stress around having the money to buy the present or what to buy or when to find the time to go. It has given me more time to spend with the Lord which has resulted in blessings beyond measure! Thank you for your inspiration and encouraging words! I pray that you will enjoy a Christ centered Holiday Season!

This is my favorite song. Infact, I asked my daughter to get me the cd for Christmas. I played it on youtube and listened to the whole song with her. It is such a beautiful song. It touched my heart so deep and it brought me back to the way that I used to live before Christ came in to my life exactly 2 years ago this month. Things that used to be so important to me like keeping the house always in spotless condition, with six kids, so you can imagine the shape I was constantly in. Yes, AN INSANE WOMAN. I made everyone who came to visit us so uncomfortable and nervous. All the beautiful dishes and glasses belong in the china cabinet for show. Never leave the house without my hair and makeup all perfectly made. And the list goes on and on... From the outside, I look like a wife and mother that always have everything under control and well put together. Did God ever showed me who is really the BOSS that has control here. As I am still going through my lessons in life, which I have so much more to learn. And most importantly "how to live" with faith and hope and in order for those two to be effective, I must also have trust. Trust in the one and only, Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 31 Daily devotionals have been such an important part of my life the last couple of years. The Point of Grace song touches my heart especially these days. My eldest son died 1-1/2 years ago and that loss has been huge for me. Without God I don't know what I would have done. This song is a great reminder that we have to live each day as though it were our last because we never know what tomorrow will bring.

Our Women's Minsitry has grown so much since then and I know you being there was a blessing. May the Lord continue to smile upon your ministry and your family. God Bless!

I thoroughly enjoy the daily devotions from Proverbs 31 and frequently share with women at work. Many of them have spurred me to think about how I am living my daily life and what my life shows to others. I am striving to be a shining light in a dark world. The song from Point of Grace really sparks a lot of memories. I have three boys (each about 2 years apart)who are grown with children of their own. I look back, as the song says, and realize that my time spent with them was the greatest gift God could have ever given me. They are very special to me! We enjoyed going to church together, reading, coloring, projects, and Bible quizzing throughout the years. Christ-centered activities, I believe, made the difference in our relationships. They have turned out to be two ministers and one church deacon, and are raising their families for God. Who could ask for a greater reward -- in spite of all my shortcomings. I would like to encourage young mothers to enjoy their time with their precious little ones. They are much more important than a spotless house, a new house or car, or whatever else we tend to put before them. Each moment is precious!!!!! I can now spend time playing with my grandchildren and hopefully show them how much Jesus loves them!! I want my life to portray my love of Jesus more than anything else.

The song "Leaving a Legacy" has always reminded me of the special times we share with our family and the morals we want them to have if we happen to die. This song became very real to me this year because a friend of mine went to be with Jesus on Thanksgiving day. She was only 37 yrs. old and left her husband, and two girls. When I hear this song now, I think of Tanya and the legacy she left for her daughters. I pray that if God chooses to take me home someday, that I would leave a Godly legacy behind. I now cherish every special moment with my kids and don't worry as much about the little things that don't mean much.

Thanks for your encouraging devotionals that I receive every day. I look forward to reading them. Cheryl

Today was the first time I had been on your site, out of the blue my mom sent me the link to read and I instantly feel in love with your blog. It's kinda funny that this is my new favorite song as well. I heard it a couple weeks ago for the first time and I cant even explain how it made me feel. I am 23 years old and I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful little boys. Though my life seems perfect on the outside I have been battling bulimia for about 7 years. I recently have reached out for the help I need and this is has been extremely challenging for me. When I hear this song, I am reminded of what is truly important in this life, there is a phrase in the song "Dont run from the truth, cause you cant get away, Just face it and you'll be ok" I repeat this when I feel weak. This song encourages me to make peace with myself and my past and grow with God, to turn up the music and appreciate the little things that are so amazing in my life. What a beautiful song to me remind me that there is hope in a greater God. Though my journey may be long, I will be OK!

I have recently been born-again and have Jesus living in my heart again and it feels so good. Your song reminded me of when I was young and life was so much less complicated. Everyone needs to remember what Christmas is about, it isn't the gifts we receive. it's the glory we give to God. May you and your family have a blessed Christmas.

I want to enjoy your beautiful gifts with my sisters and friends. I want to listen to the CD and let it minister to me, then give it away to minister to someone I love. The same with the DVD and the devotional. I like that they're all reusable, to be listened to, and read over and over again and blessed by them.
Merry Christmas, Kathy

Thank you for having this video on your blog. I hear this song on the radio all the time but had never seen the video. (We are so blessed to have a local Christian radio station) Anyway, this song reminds me how important it is to keep this earthly life in perspective. We can get so caught up in our careers and the things of this world that we miss out on the little things such as a walk on the beach or just sitting down with a good book and a cup of coffee. This song is about leaving a legacy of loving Jesus and loving others as Jesus would love them.

I have been hearing this song on KLOVE and turn it up every time.
I was a single Mom while my children were growing up, so I feel like I missed out on alot with them. Now, I have 7 grandchildren. I plan to spend every possible moment with them. I want them to love the Lord, enjoy the world He has given us.
I have had Christmas china for years and used it maybe once a year. Today I got it out for me to enjoy every day until I decide to put it up.
The family decided to downsize gift giving this year and just spend time together. I am looking forward to Christmas more than ever.
Then I am going back to the Mississippi coast to do relief work for a week at the end of the year. Spending New Years doing something for someone else sounds like the perfect beginning to 2008 I look forward to the email that delivers my devotional each day. Thank you so much for the encouragement.

I am sooo in love with this song !! I have been struggling lately with changes in family traditions ( grandparents away from my children ( and ME!) for Christmas....) and just little things that have really got my spirit down, but this song lifts me up -I turn up the music and let it all go away and really in the end my focus is on my 4 lovies ( ages 9-1) and letting God's word fill me up and remind me of the REAL reason for Christmas- His Son that died for me.... Thank you for your blog and have a wonderful day ( well night it is 10pm so I better head on to bed LOL!!) Love
Kate

Hi Rene,
I was a first-time attender to the P31 conference this past year and signed up for the daily devotional there. I have so enjoyed the daily encouragement from all you ladies. I also have to tell you that I am very excited because you are coming to speak at my church's womens' retreat in February. I have already been praying for you.
I do love that song that you posted on your blog. I always crank it up when it comes on the radio - partly because I love it and partly to mask my singing voice! I am always especially touched by the line that says 'have what you want, but want what you have.' As I have grown to love Jesus more, He has really given me a contented heart - a heart that is filled with joy and peace and gratitude. I've been doing a Bible study on James and am reminded there also that God uses our trials in life to grow us up spiritually, but we have to cooperate, we have to 'want it.' It's not like making a Christmas list of what we want and presenting it to God. He has a list and invites us to come, sit on his lap on the throne and walk through it with him. I would not have placed every item on my list that God has placed there, but he promises to use all of it to my benefit and to his glory. Because I love him and trust him, I 'have what I want and I want what I have.'
Blessings,
Chris

Amen Sista!!! I was just thinking about this, today, as I walked, barefoot toward the parking garage of the Houston Galleria Mall. I was tired and my feet had blisters in places I didn't even know they could have blisters!! I was trying to remain positve and thinking all the while that I was determined to make this year a year of living in the moment and looking forward to being w/family and the "gift" each individual brings to this unit rather than the "gift" that the media andt he world tell me I should want!!! I want to laugh as my father-in-law asks me, for over 15 years now if I like eggs and the family gives a resounding "NO!" in my honor. I want to cry w/my husband when he reads the Christmas card I give to him and to be thankful that God brought me a man after His own heart. I want to "live in the moment" as Oprah encourages BUT I want it to be a God moment. I want to look for Him in all that life has to offer. I'm off to soak my tired feet and I'm going to listen for God as I meditate on the blessings of my day-yes even those blessings at the Galleria (a parking space that was front and center!!!). Do you hear him too? Listen carefully for HE speaks above the hustle and bustle of our world and His message is the only one that matters.

Blessings,

Pam

This song is so beautiful. I have sent it out to so many of my friends.
I wanted it to touch their hearts as it did mine. We all have a story to tell and it's so hard to leave the past behind and let the joy and beauty of today consume us. But as this song says, we must let go and turn the music up loud and live now! I am so blessed with a Godly husband and wonderful children. We have all come a long way. Thanks be to God that I am cleansed and renewed from where I've been. This is my favorite song now and it speaks directly to my heart. I should have grabbed the tissues like you suggested in the beginning. :-)

This song has blessed me and challenged me since I first heard it when it came out. I have lost some dear friends and relatives this year, and I am watching a friend fight moment by moment for her life as she battles cancer at the age of 32. It makes me think about how short life truly is and how we need to live it to the fullest!
I have been a Point of Grace fan since the beginning and am touched by so many of their songs.

My dear friend just lost her husband and they are/were both 40 years old!!!! She tells me that she wishes she had spent more time w/him. Choosing to just "be" w/him rather than going out w/her sister, etc. Hindsight is 20/20 but her reflections have really helped me to enjoy every moment!

I just found your site...wonderful! Thank you for sharing this amazing song! I'm so turning up the volume now!

Wow!! I just listened to the Point of Grace song and I love it. I, too, crank it up in my car. This song is so contrary to what the world would like us to be. In the world it IS about who you know and what you do. What a peace we have as Christians to know that the ONLY person worth knowing is Jesus Christ and it is because of Him that we live and have life eternal. That is our legacy and living it is what we should be about. Ahhh-there's the rub. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the "world" that I have to STOP it all and sit down w/the Savior!!!

I would like to win this prize because it would help me to do just that. Sit w/the Savior w/the daily devotional book. What a treat!!! Rachel's conference DVD would be a wonderful additon to my Christian women's library. Hooray!! Women Rule (just kidding!). And lastly, the Point of Grace CD would be icing on the prize. :) I could turn up the volume anywhere and everywhere. Yikes that just might not be a good idea. Hee!!

Thanks you two for living a legacy and enouraging me EVERY day w/your web site and your "real" devotionals.

Keep up the Godly work,

Pam Stewart

Christ love should shine through us. We should show our love for our family everyday. I learned this the hard way when a few years back I visited my brother and felt the need to tell him I loved him. I qinched the Spirit and did not tell him and about one hour later he shot himself. So I spend time talking to others telling them to say I love you. and that is why Point of Grace when they sing this song touches my heart.

Hi,
This song has a powerful message. Each day is so precious and we need to cherish each moment of it, and not worry about tomorrow. I think this song also says to me that we all need to spend good quality time with those we love and teach our children and grandchildren to love by example of "How You Live".
Thank you for sharing the song on your blog. It is beautifully sung and written. I'm going to turn up the music and sing loud.
God is so good..And he wants us to take every opportunity to share our love and be happy and give a beautiful smile to those we meet..

God Bless

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful song. The words really hit home with me. We know how to live well (at least we're striving to learn, right?) yet it's so hard in our human weakness. I am reminded of this every time that I lose my temper with my three small boys (5, 3, 1). It's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle surrounding this season but today I resolve anew to slow down, turn up the music, and try to see the world through the eyes of my children.

Oh my goodness, I can't help but cry when I hear that song. Isn't it so true?? In order for my husband and I to understand the importance of that and for God to get our attention, we had to divorce. It is only through the divorce and God's grace that we were able to reconcile, move from our world based lifestyle to a much simpler God focused life. We moved from CT to NC, married again and keep God, each other and our son at the center of our lives. Everything else comes after that...God led us to a house that we are restoring as we continue to restore our family. God is so good!! joshua2415sj3.blogspot.com

As the mother of 2 teenage boys, we have plenty of hormones raging in our home. Each day some sort of conflict arises-something very minor that typically escalates-homework, schedules, hair styles...it is the time when I overhear our 2 boys apologize to one another, share a kindness or pray unprompted that I reflect on this song & the opportunity we have each day to put aside our own agendas & focus on others. Giving our best to Him through others each day.

I loved the song and the children featured in the video. Children are so full of love and laughter. Oh if we just mirrored the little children's delight in everyday experiences. In this hustle bustle time of year, women need to look at the smiles on their children and learn every day is a gift from our Lord and Savior!

What a blessing that song is for me today. I have been a stay at home mom for the last two and a half years & loved it, but often times I simply take things for granted. The Lord has really blessed me with two healthy kids & an amazing, Godly husband. I can find myself letting days pass without being 'truly greatful' & not stopping to truly thank the Lord for all he has given me. Well, this song really touched me this morning in a way that I could not have expected. I am going to work today for the first time & am really torn in knowing if this is the right thing for me to be doing. As I listened to this song, I realized that life is about what I do from day to day with my time & with my life and how it can glorify God. Living as an example for my kids isn't easy, but it is commanded in scripture. What a blessing this song was for me today and confirmed that it is how I live that will impact my children & others, especially in showing them the love of Jesus Christ.
Thanks so much for sharing this song and your entry today. The Lord really used you today to touch my heart...thank you for letting Him do that through you and your blog!
What a Great God we serve!

Having been widowed 4 years ago this song really touches my heart. You do need to live for today and do all those things she sings about in the song as you never know when last day will be that you can say I Love you to your husband etc. But I have richly blessed by that situation in my life and am now engaged and certainly approach my life and relationship differently now. God is focus of it and I know it is He who is giving me a second chance at life!

That song is so meaningful to me right now. My sister-in-law has had to have her eyeball removed due to an aggressive melanoma and will eventually lose sight in her other eye. She has 4 boys and is so strong in her faith. She models this song everyday to her family and friends. It's not who you know or what you do but how you live each day. She lives each day with a positive attitude even though she has so much going on with her health. She could not do it without God. Thanks for all that you do to encourage all of us!!

This is a beautiful piece of music, "Have what you want, want what you have". That is the hieght of it for me. It tells how to live as our father created us to live. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy. God has called us to be virtous women, to nuture, to love, to protect, to enjoy. We are his heart beat and he desires for us to enjoy every moment of our lives, that's why he gave us everything we need for life and Godliness. Thank God we have all it takes. May his grace see us through. Amen. I am a single mother of 2 wonderful children a boy and girl and i cherish every moment i spend with them. I use this opportunity to pray for all mothers in this generation, that the wisdom to raise our kids the Godly way will be bestowed on us especially Godly mothers. that we may transfere the mind of God into them. Amen. Thank u for this blog. God bless you and your family. Amen

What a wonderful reminder that we are not here to impress others with what we have or what we have done but how we live our lives. Jesus came to save us and our surrender and obedience is what shines through. When we live our lives letting Him shine through that is what truly counts. I am so thankful for reminders like this during this busy Christmas season, it puts everything back into perspective when I start to feel the stress of the season.

Oh Boy!! Now you have me crying at work.. Its amazing how God touches you in just the right way that you need it even when you forget to always seek him.. I am a single mom with a 15 year old daughter who has such a heart for the Lord (what a blessing) and this holiday season has been taking a toll on me.. Between work and planning the company Christmas party, having to shop last minute and all her softball games.. I took alot of my frustration out on her this weekend saying that if I didn't have to go to her game I could get so much more done!!!!!!! (And through it all SHE was apologizing) I can barely speak about this, how HORRIBLE am I and she is such a GREAT softball player they chose her for this team to travel.. She had this AMAZING catch in the outfield that was picture perfect and did great and I wouldn't have traded any time just to see that catch or to see her play.. And when we got home she was an amazing help with setting up the Christmas decorations... We forget a lot in all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season (and life in general) that Christ is the center of everything and he has BLESSED us with our children and before I know it she will be gone on her own and the games will have ended and how I will have missed out on all of that with my poor pitiful me attitude and having to have everything perfect.. Thank you for posting that song I loved how it (Or shall I say God) was speaking to exactly what I am trying to work on right now, in treasuring my child not adding her to my burden list and how sometimes through it all I have a tendency to put what matters MOST on the back burner (My family and God) to take care of all the other things that aren't going to matter much in the long run.. Thank you again for refocusing my day in the right direction... A little tears never hurt to cleanse the soul!!!

Renee,

I love that song. It is so real in my life. For the longest time, I've not enjoyed the life God gave me. I've spent it complaining. I am so grateful for people like you and Lysa and The Point of Grace. Everyda, I'm learning to praise God for His enduring love and people like you to share them.

I would love to win this CD. I don't know if I've enter too late, but I want to win because it will be a great gift for my daughter of 13 years old. She loves Point of Grace and I don't have any money to buy them. I make quilt tops for a living, and the lady that I make them for has lost her biggest wholesaler, so she's cutting back on orders which means that I will have to find other means to support my family. But, to have this CD would be an awesome gift for a little expecting nothing for Christmas because she believes mommy has nothing prepared for her this Christmas.

God bless you.

I love this song because it reminds me that it doesn't matter what I say to my kids, it matters what I show them. If I say to honor God with everything that you do, but then I say a not-so-pretty word when I hit my toe, or get angry when I get cut off in traffic, or yell when my son is not obeying, then I am really not showing him much to be proud of in his mom. I know in my heart that God wants to help me, but I struggle with KNOWING that in my head. How wonderful it must feel to truly give "it" over to him, whatever "it" is.

This song lets me know not to live in the past but for today and with God in my life I can do that.

Being a mom of three little girls, Melia who is 4 and Ryanne and Sabrina who are 3, I should understand how very blessed I am. They are sweet and precious little girls who want nothing more than to spend time talking and playing with their mommy. But too many days I am distracted by the messes they leave in their wake, always stressing over picking up and keeping the house looking nice. Listening to the words and watching the video of "How you live" struck a cord deep in my heart... as a result I stepped away from my computer gathered my girls and headed for the kitchen. For a little while we lost ourselves in butter, sugar and eggs. We made shamrocks and umbrella spritz cookies in the middle of December; we sprinkled the counters and floor with wild abandonment and even managed to get a few sprinkles on our cookies! But for a moment... all we cared about was enjoying one another, it was a precious and sweet moment for us all. Thank you for reminding me to "live" in between my cleaning!! Merry Christmas! That is my favorite song, and I love it even more after seeing the video. That song touches my heart because it helps to remind me that I gave up my "dream" career and moved to Charlotte to really enjoy each day by focusing on my daughter and family. Proverbs 31 Ministries continues to help me grow in my faith and to focus on God with patience as He reveals the purpose for my life. We are very blessed, but this year is financially tight. I know God continues to speak to me about making the most of what we have and not worrying about "things" to give. Thank for the reminder. God bless, Michelle A.

"How You Live" by Point of Grace is my favorite song too. I turn it up and sing loudly and my 2 1/2 year old joins in. It's so precious to hear her singing the words with all of her heart. That song has a great message and reminder.Too many times I think we get caught up in the materialism and commercialism of our society and forget to just live for God. My husband and I moved to a new town a year and a half ago. For about a year I struggled to feel like I belonged here all the while missing my family and his which we now lived farther from. A year after we moved here, I was blessed with the best friend I've ever met. I believe God meant for us to meet and through her I've found more great friends, a church I love going to and my life seems more blessed. Perhaps I wasn't looking in the right place or I was trying to hard or not hard enough. Either way, I'm much happier and my friends and God have gotten us through some happy times and rough times since. Glory be to God!!!!!

What a beautiful song - my first time hearing it. What touched me is the thought of doing what I really want - Christ-centered, of course - right now. And isn't it funny how we can't even remember what we got for Christmas a year ago, yet the gifts seem so important at the time and we put so much thought into what we give others. All for nothing. It's not what we get, what we give, what we have, but how we live.

And you are so right...our families, especially our little ones, just need more of our time. Thank you for all you do! You're being used in wonderful ways by our Lord!

I just love that song, it is really a great reminder of how we need to focus on what the important things are and what really matters in life . I constantly remind myself that God is in control and that how I live my life in any circumstance is what is important. The song reminds me to take advantage of every opportunity that God puts before us,to live life to the fullest, for tomorrow is not promised to any of us and we must use the talents that we were given to better serve him.

I hope this comment gets posted, I tried posting yesterday twice and it didn't work. I new to this so here it goes.I have been saved going on 2 years this Christmas Day, which has brought me to always be grateful for this day. Before coming to know Christ, I didn't know anything about God, I mean, I knew there was a God, but that's about it. To me Christmas time was about gifts, no one ever took the time to tell me about Jesus' birth.I lived my life just because, miserable everyday. Listening to the lyrics of this song by Point of Grace, reminds me to live my life to the fullest everyday, a reminder that I have so much to be grateful for. Many times in the midst of so many things happening we forget that tomorrow may never come.

I really enjoy listening to that song. I have heard it many times on Serious Radio 66 (Spirit). It is so true that it all comes down to how we lived our life. I hope that as I am going to be a mom to another little girl at the end of January that I remember this song. I want my girls to learn the important lesson that "it is how we live our life that counts". Thank you to Point of Grace for writing the song and Renee for allowing us to listen to the song. It is a blessing. God Bless!

It is truly all about "how we live". This is an awesome song.
We lost my mother-in-law of August this year and I know that Christmas will be tough without her, but the pastor told the family at her funeral to "live her legacy". She loved her grandkids and she loved Jesus with all of her heart. Near the end of her life, Alzheimer's had robbed of her of so much, but when she prayed she touched heaven and in the 3 short weeks she was in the nursing home, she was able to touch fellow residents as well as the nurses. Many came to tell the family how much she had touched their lives.
As our kids grow up, they may never remember what you got them for Christmas, but they will remember you being at their ball games, their band concerts, and taking them for a picnic or just a bicycle ride. Our oldest daughter is a Senior in high school this year and the time has just flown by. We can never get time back, and I am so thankful that as a mom that we have been able to take those afternoon shopping excursions, even if we didn't spend a lot of money, or just go out to eat, just the two of us. Our kids need us so much more than any "gift" that we could ever give them.
This song also reminds me of the times that I have been "too busy" to do things, like watch a movie with my kids, and I desire to step up my efforts to be there for my kids, my husband, and those people that are around me. I want to be available so that God can use me to touch those around me.
God Bless - Donna L

What a reminder this song is! During the hustle and bustle of this holiday season, wearing red dresses, using our good dishes, and making big messes aren't always on the agenda for the day. We don't always live life to the fullest because we're busy getting everything ready for Christmas. This song speaks volumes as it reminds us to live life without looking back but looking forward and doing all things to the glory of our God. This holiday season, I pray that I can take the time to reflect on how I live my life each day. May friends, family, and my son see that I live to glorify Christ in all that I do rather than that I am so busy I don't take time to live and glorify Him. Thanks for posting the video. What a blessing it has been. Merry Christmas to all and a Blessed New Year too!

I love this Point of Grace song. I think we all do the same thing - turn up the music & sing! Each time I hear the song, I think about ways in which I can appreciate my family and show them how precious they are...then I remember that this is what I thought about the last time I heard this song too...and how many times I failed to do that over the past day or two. I guess we just keep trying and hope that God's love shines through our imperfection anyway.

I am currently trying to get my family in a better financial place so that I can be at home and take care of my family. I hate missing out on the important moments of my new daughter's life, but as a mom and wife I have to do what's best for my family. Right now I have to help my husband provide for us and that is a wonderful job, too. I just can't wait for that next part to come! Right now I will enjoy getting to be right where I am. And that is great. All that said, I too am trying to give my family more of me this Christmas!

I don't think there is enough space to tell you how incredible this song is! It touches my heart in ways that are so amazing! (I, too, turn up the radio and sing out!!) The song reminds me to get out in the world and make a difference in how we live, by showing Jesus! I wish the "world" could hear and understand it!!

That was by far one of the most beautiful and edifying songs I've had the pleasure of hearing. the lyrics were affirmations that in all we do in this life we should do it with Godliness! loving one another, being kind to one another, and always but always putting the needs of someone else before our very own!

This song helps me to remember what is most important. In our crazy, busy world we must remember to make our families our top priority. The world will continue to demand more from each of us and it is up to us to decide what we do with the time that we are given. I am so thankful that God has gifted you with the ability to touch so many lives for His good.

I recently found out that my husband has been lying to me about a particular issue throughout the duration of our marriage. Aside from this one point, he's absolutely wonderful, but my trust has been shaken and as a mostly stay-at-home mom of two, I feel as if my little world has been rocked to the core. I'm trying hard to work through these issues and learn to forgive and trust again, but it's not easy. Our future feels out of control, and every time I see him cuddle our infant son or make our toddler daughter laugh, I want to freeze that moment in time so that I have it with me always. I love this POG song because it's such a great verbal reminder that God is in control of everything and that we should always savor those little moments - and that, in one way or another, He will always give those to us!

Oh, Renee, thank you so much for posting the video of this song on the web site! I got chills watching it and hearing the lines, "It's not who you knew; it's not what you did. It's how you live." Those lines echo the spiritual struggle I have undergone in the last four years.

For nine years I taught high-school English, loving it and achieving many accolades. When my husband and I were expecting our first child, however, I knew that it was the right thing for our family for me to stay at home. I had no qualms about this change and was grateful for the opportunity to be at home. That is, I had no qualms until I underwent a major identity crisis. Who was I now that I was no longer a teacher? What was I worth without the awards and admiration? The first two years of the four years I've been a mom have been filled with my developing my identity as a child of God, rather than by achievements in men's eyes. Now as my children are growing older, and I see their imitating my behavior, for good and and for bad, the last part of those lines have been my theme. How I live is such an influence to these little lives. I know that the only way that I can be a Christ-like example for them is by surrendering to the Holy Spirit day by day.
Thank you for this poignant reminder to live for Christ!

I love this song. I love how it makes me sit and think about how I am living my life. I love spending time at home with my family. I just came from a job where I was working 50 to 60 hours to a new job where I am only working 40 so I can spend more time with my children. We love to turn up the music!!

At Christmas time and all of the time, really, we all get so caught up in the gifts, social events and making the perfect atmosphere for our families. But how often do we stop, really stop and just focus on those around us and enjoy life? For me with a 3 and 1 year old little girls, I have to remember to do that everyday to enjoy the 'real'moments in life. We are so busy being busy that we forget to that little voice that needs their mommy's attention or hugs. That is so relevant when we think of God and how he is never too busy for us, He hears us everytime that we call him. We should replicate that action with our children. That is what the song said to me :)

Ok, Renee, so here's what happened to me today. First of all, this song is embedded in my mind because I have listened to it so many times, and when I am not listening to it..I am singing it. I went over to Mobile today to Lifeway Christian Bookstore to get the cd and when I couldn't find it right away I got help and they found it. There were 3 copies on the shelf and I bought 2. One for me and one for a Christmas gift for my daughter. This cd also has a beautiful song called "Heal the wound" and my goodness! it is awesome as well. Thank you for bringing these touching songs to my attention. They truly can be life changing. I needed this!

Hi Renee,
I'm really enjoying this blog tour. : ) Thanks for your generosity and for your reminder to connect with our real live relationships. I've been spending too much time lost in cyberspace lately, and not enough with my loved ones.

Merry Christmas!

This song really hit home and touched my heart today as I listened to it. I read my devotions from proverbs 31 everyday when I check my email. But lately I've been rushed and haven't been taking the time I need to slow down and digest what I read. But yesterday I was in a car accident and everything became very clear. If that wasn't enough for God to get my attention, today my daughter came home with the chicken pox even though she's had 2 vaccine shots of it. Now I know that when He told me to slow down, He meant literally. My life was one "appointment" to another. Working, taking care of 3 girls, ect. I now have 2 wonderful weeks to spend with my sick daughter as we both recover. THank you for this song that I needed to hear at just the right time in my life.

I am struggling with depression right now, but this song always gives me a happy heart and removes my tunnel vision for awhile. You can't know how it feels to have that darkness lifted for a time. God is surely good to us!

Peace be with you,

I've never 'blogged' before. I love my daily P31 devotions; Thank you for blessing my days. I loved the song, I started out having a sad day, my daughter's fiance just called off their engagement. The song reminded me of how blessed I am to have my daughter turn to the Lord and me for guidance and how proud I am of her for saying "I just want to please the Lord and honor Him." (It hasn't always been this way, she was totally away from the Lord for 2 of those 21years) so I cherish every moment I get to spend with her. We are only promised today, I don't want to miss anything in her life, I have never regreted spending time with her, that's how God feels about us (His children) He loves us and wants to spend time with us, whether we are busy, happy, sad, glad, etc. I just pray I can make a difference in the world too.
I would love to win, because Point Of Grace is her favorite group.
By the way, we are going on a bible teaching cruise Jan 7 and spend her wedding money! Won't that make the devil mad!

Reminding me to live each day one moment at a time. Reminding me to enjoy each and every blessing God bestows...whether the gentle breeze or the strong winds...the laughter or crying of my prescooler, and even the hormonal craziness of my 15 year old. Each moment, lived to the best of my ability for Christ!

Thanks for the reminder!

Great video! I haven't seen this one yet. My 2 kids are grown and recent college graduates. This video brought back so many memories. I have a type A personality that always wants everything to look perfect and be oh-so-tidy. It was difficult for me, but I made a decision when my kids were little that I would just get over all of that. My M-I-L probably cringed at how my house looked sometimes when she would pop over and I would be in the dining room tent (you know - blankets and sheets over the dining room table) with everything in a complete disaster. But we had some great times. My husband and I never missed a single event through the years. We are so proud of our children - an English professor in Japan and a nurse in Dallas. I know that God blessed us because we continually asked for His help and we took the time to be there for our kids. I see so many parents who don't take the time to be with their kids and it is a sad situation. If you have young ones you need to be there!!

Keep up the great work.

This video is awesome! I'm a new mother...my sweet baby girl is only three months old! I'm enjoying the precious moments of life; I'm actually living. And it feels wonderful! I hope all who listen to this song truly hear its message.

Prayers and Blessings!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to tell you how much I love and am inspired by your website! A friend referred me to it about 1 year ago. I save all of them in a folder, I figured out how to do that, and send them to friends and people I love. I loved the video and was crying during it. It IS so important to live everyday as if it was your last and to let your loved ones know how much you love them and want to spend time with them. It's also sad because my daughter is missing out on all teachable moments and milestones and everyday JOY, because of her lifestyle and with me raising her son, my grandson for over 7 yrs now he is 11 now. I cry for my grandson, my daughter and myself. I try to share with her , and forgive her and most of all to love her and it helps me when I read the devotionals that I know God is helping me with to deal with all of this on-going, stressful life. I know HE is speaking to me through all of you at Proverbs 31.!!I am constantly thinking about Romans 8-28 and trying to understand the point of it all. I love God and my church and all of my christian Helpers, angels that God has put in my life. Thanks again,
